What school floors go through
School floors take hundreds of footsteps an hour, plus chairs scraping, backpacks dropping and lunch spilling. Entryways track in rain and mud, and cafeterias need constant mopping. Worn concrete and old tile scuff, stain and get harder to keep clean every year.
Safety comes first. A floor that turns slick when wet is a real risk in a hallway full of kids, so traction matters as much as durability. Custodial teams also need a floor they can keep clean quickly between classes and after events, without stripping and waxing.
School epoxy flooring vs. polyaspartic
Epoxy has been used in schools for years, but it takes several days to cure and can chip and yellow over time. Our polyaspartic system cures fast, stays UV stable near windows and doors, and resists scratches, scuffs and stains.
It also uses low-VOC formulations that are safe for interior use, which matters in shared indoor spaces. See the full comparison on our epoxy flooring page.

- Slip-resistant textures for entries and cafeterias
- Seamless and easy to clean with soap and water
- Low-VOC formulations, safe for interior use
- UV stable, so it won't yellow near windows
Scheduling around the school calendar
Every install starts with diamond grinding to prep the concrete, with minor cracks and stains repaired during prep. Grinding opens up the surface so the coating bonds tightly, which is what keeps it from peeling under years of foot traffic. Then we apply the polyurea base coat, an optional flake broadcast and the polyaspartic topcoat.
A single classroom, workshop or maintenance area can often be coated in a day, which makes weekends and short breaks workable. Larger projects across a campus take more planning, and we'll plan the schedule with you around the school year. Daycares and private schools with smaller buildings can often finish everything over a single weekend. Walk through the steps on our process page.

Colors, school spirit and warranty
With dozens of flake and base color combinations, you can pick a look that matches your school, or use different colors to set apart hallways, classrooms and activity areas. Browse options on our color choices page. Darker flake blends like Domino or Granite hide scuffs in busy hallways, while lighter blends keep classrooms bright.
Commercial floors carry a 5-year warranty from Heritage, where many installers offer one to three years. Upkeep is simple for custodial staff: sweep, then mop with soap and water.
Every part of campus
Schools have more concrete than most people realize. Beyond hallways and classrooms, there are cafeterias, locker rooms, workshops, maintenance rooms and bus or equipment garages. The same system works across all of them, so you can plan one project or phase it over several breaks.
Cafeteria kitchens are covered on our commercial kitchen flooring page, bus and maintenance garages on our commercial garage floor coating page, and nurse's offices or science labs on our healthcare and lab floor coating page. See every facility type on our commercial floor coating hub.

Questions
School flooring: straight answers
Is the coating safe to use inside a school?
Our coatings use low-VOC formulations that are safe for interior use. Because the coating cures quickly, there is less waiting before a room is back in use. We'll go over the timing for your rooms and how soon students and staff can return during the free assessment. That way you can plan room moves and deliveries with confidence.
Can you finish the work over a school break?
Often, yes. Smaller areas like a classroom, workshop or locker room can usually be coated in a day, so weekends and short breaks work well. For larger projects we plan the schedule with you around the school calendar. Call (737) 637-3732 to start planning. Summer is a popular time, so it helps to reach out early.
How slip-resistant is it?
We offer slip-resistant textures that add grip in entries, cafeterias, locker rooms and anywhere floors can get wet. We'll recommend the right finish for each area during the assessment, balancing traction with how easy the floor is to keep clean. Gym and activity spaces may need a different approach, so ask us during the visit.
Which parts of a school can you coat?
Concrete floors in hallways, cafeterias, classrooms, workshops, locker rooms, maintenance areas and bus or equipment garages are all good candidates. Areas with damaged or uneven concrete may need some repair first, and we'll be upfront about that. We'll look at each area's slab and how it's used during a free visit. Contact us to schedule one.
Is school epoxy flooring cheaper?
Epoxy can look cheaper upfront, but it takes several days to cure, which is hard to fit into a short break, and it can chip and yellow over time. A polyaspartic floor that installs fast and carries a 5-year commercial warranty usually costs less over its life. We'll give you a clear quote after a free assessment.
